Edited to add some additional information because not everyone is familiar with Duster's "origins" and background, and this info can help explain some of the comments, references, and what-not that I make about my primary original character.

I did not, initially, create Duster. The Mistress of the Winds began her life as a coloured drawing by :iconvladi-the-wizard:. He had posted this artwork on his web site, The Wizard's Lair, where I don't think it received much notice. Looking to rectify this he held a story-writing contest (scroll down to "Wizard's Original Heroines 2003"—yes, it was that long ago, children). Contest entrants had to write stories based upon one of three original characters he had created and drawn. Duster was one of the trio; Vladi specified her name but left the details up to the writers. He didn't specify her secret identity, her powers, or anything else, leaving us tantalizingly free to make it all up to suit the needs of our story. Interestingly I was the only contest entrant to write a story about Duster. I didn't win; that honour went, not at all surprisingly, to my very talented colleague :iconlespion1944:.

But I developed something of an obsession with this character that Vladi had initially created and I had embellished (or perhaps "fleshed out" is the more appropriate term :D). This is because, in large part, I thought Vladi's drawing of the character bore an uncanny resemblance to my favourite Pl@yb0y Playmate, Candy Loving. (Go ahead and Google her. I'll wait. You may be awhile. ;)) And while I had previously written stories about DC heroines in peril (Wonder Woman and so on—you can still find these at the Lair), Duster was MY first original character. So I had the freedom to create a whole fictional world, backstory, and so on.

Which I proceeded to do, and still do to this day. I've written several stories about Duster, her boyfriend The Black Phantom, her teammates Night Angel, Midnight Avenger, and Whirlwind, and the many, many perverse villains she faces. In 2014, at the suggestion of (and with considerable assistance from) my friend :icontheexitzero: I made the move to start e-publishing my stories; you can obtain them at Smashwords and to a lesser extent (because they're prudes who frequently block my admittedly racy books) at Amazon. As I write this I'm in the process of revising the old stories, adding new material to them, and publishing them in collections which currently you can only find at Smashwords and their affiliates.

Earlier this year (2016) I got into digital art so I'm now creating images of Duster and other OCs, my own and those belonging to other Deviants. Recently a couple of people told me they thought digital art was all I did, which is a bit of a compliment. But I consider myself a writer first and foremost. This is why so many of my images take the form of either story series (such as Raiders of the Lost Eye and "Test Lab") or even just "Our Story Thus Far" one-shots. I've always liked artwork that contained enough details to "tell a story", so I strive to do the same.

So that's a short version of the story behind the stories and the artwork. Thanks for reading it.

I've always liked this character. That could explain why I keep buying the books. 😃

I'm currently trying to see how I should write-up Duster for the Hero System and Mighty Protectors game systems. Not for any particular game, but as an exercise and a sort of thank you to Danger Guy.

BTW, has anyone tried doing this before? Just curious.
